In the evening of November 29th, the citizens of the southern provinces in Vietnam gathered at Hoa Binh Square, Vi Thanh City, Hau Giang Province to watch many special and impresive repertoires including traditional dance and music and traditional costume performance of Khmer art groups from 12 southern provinces (Hau Giang, An Giang, Bac Lieu, Binh Phuoc, Ca Mau, Kien Giang, Soc Trang, Tay Ninh, Tra Vinh, Vinh Long, Can Tho, and Ho Chi Minh City). These repertoires were performed in the closing ceremony of Khmer Festival of Culture, Sports and Tourism. On the theme of "The Southern Khmer ethnic people – solidarity towards the country's islands", during 3 days of the festival, Khmer ethnic people from 12 southern provinces flocked to Hau Giang to participate in diverse cultural activities such as fairs, exhibitions, gastronomic culture, sports competition, Dua Ghe Ngo, arts festival, and so on.
According to the organizing committee, the festival took place in joyful and united atmostphere. During the festival, order and security was always guaranteed. Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Kieu Linh, Standing Deputy Head of the Organizing Committee emphasized that Khmer Festival of Culture, Sports and Tourism was a sequence of events with a variety of special activities. The festival attracted more than 130,000 visitors taking part in. The success of the festival continued to assert the important meaning of the festival and contributed to make the festival become a significant cultural event of Khmer community in Vietnam.
This year Khmer Festival of Culture, Sports and Tourism, one of big festivals of Khmer people welcomed the attendance of 12 art groups from different provinces in the south. These art groups brought to the festival more than 50 special repertoires, which contributed to make the festival become more colorful and meaningful. The festival was a good chance where people from different regions in Vietnam gathered, exchanged and confirmed the solidarity.
According to Mr. Vu Van Tanh, General Director of Hau Giang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in spite of being held in a short time, Khmer Festival of Culture, Sports and Tourism took place with many meaningful activities and left good impression for its participants. Also during the framework of the festival, the Organizing Committtee decided that Bac Lieu was the next destination to hold the 7th Khmer Festival of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2017.
