Highlights Southern Fruit Festival 2015 in Ho Chi Minh City

From June 1 to June 26, 2015, the 11th Southern Fruit Festival with many featured activities will take place in Suoi Tien Cultural Park, in District 9, Ho Chi Minh City. The festival is expected to have many interesting activities.

The Southern Fruit Festival is held by Ho Chi Minh Agriculture and Rural Development Department, and Tourism Department in coordination with Suoi Tien Cultural Park with the participation of 21 provinces and cities nationwide. This is one of outstanding annual cultural and tourist festivals in Ho Chi Minh City to introduce and honor the results in agriculture in Southern Vietnam in particular and in Vietnam in general, along with promulgate the image of Ho Chi Minh City to both domestic and international tourists. The opening ceremony of the 11th Southern Fruit Festival in Ho Chi Minh will be held in June 1, 2015 with many exciting and featured activities such as carnival of art delegations from Vietnam, South Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia, India, Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand; fruit carnival with the participation of more than 200 actors playing as fairies accompanying 16 fruit deities. There are two performances per day, which takes place non-stop in 20 days.

Performances in Southern Fruit Festival

The new thing in this festival is that all activities will be converged in an area and arranged seamlessly to create favorable conditions for visitors. Especially, the area of "Fruit Floating Market" is divided into two parts of business and display. The selling area has 50 booths as boats full of fresh fruit of more than 150 types. The fruit is sold with special discount (20-40% compared with that of the market rate). Among those, there are many famous brands such as Hoang Gia pomelos (Vinh Long), Hoang Hau dragon fruit, Luc Ngan lychee,, Cai Mon durian, Sa Dec caimito fruit, Hoa Loc mango, longan, guava, Vinh Kim orange, Lai Thieu mangosteen, strawberry, papaya, Tan Trieu pomelo, red jackfruit (from Vacdona Long Thanh), Sapa peach, and Lang Son, plum... The exhibition area introduces many kinds of fruit meeting the standard of VietGap and Global Gap, giant fruit collection, and rare fruit...

One of the most interesting activities in Southern Fruit Festival is fruit shaping art contest. This is the main activity in this festival, in order to encourage, develop and honor the fruit shaping art contest of Vietnamese Southerners. Based on the main themes of sea and island homeland and the 40th anniversary of Southern Liberation and Vietnam Reunification (30/04/1975 - 04/30/2015), the unique visual art works by fruit will be on display along the main road of Suoi Tien Cultural Park. With deft hands, artists will blow soul into the works, combine fruits consistently, harmoniously and lively. The closing and awarding ceremony will be held on in June 20, 2015 in Suoi Tien Cultural Park.

Extra Specialties in Southern Fruit Festival

In this Southern Fruit Festival 2015, Ho Chi Minh Department of Tourism will coordinate with the city's Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Southern Fruit Tree Institute, and Suoi Tien Cultural Park to organize the 7th Southern Good and Safe Fruit Competition with the participation of fruit growers, cooperatives, businesses from 21 provinces and cities in Southern Vietnam. This is an activity to honor the delicious and safe fruits, to encourage farmers to apply advanced techniques in production and breeding. In addition, this is an opportunity to identify and detect strange fruit varieties, contributing to diversify of Southern fruit. The contest consists of two main parts held at the stage of Hung King in Suoi Tien Cultural Park on June 1. Besides, coming to the Southern Fruit Festival 2015, visitors will have a chance to enjoy 30 dishes made of fruit. The 11th Southern Fruit Festival is expected to attract more than one million visitors. On this occasion, Suoi Tien Cultural Park has a promotion on free children entrance ticket going with parents, 50% discount on entrance tickets for children of groups on June 1. From June 1 - August 30, 2015, Suoi Tien Cultural Park also discounts 50% fare for excellent children with certificates of merit 2014 - 2015.
