Dalat clay sculptures - A new tourism product

Dalat clay sculptures also known as clay tunnel in Dalat. The tourist attraction is becoming a famous and appealing stopover in Dalat tours. The clay sculpture complex portrays vivid clay works recreating the history and culture in Dalat City.

Dalat clay sculptures (Dalat City in Lam Dong Province) has many names such as clay sculptures tunnel or red soil tunnel... However, with any name, the stopover drives tourists to a new interesting and unique attraction in Dalat. The clay sculptures were built from 2010 at Dalat Star tourist area nearby Tuyen Lam Lake. Up until now, the tunnel has a length of about 2km, which recreates about the history of Dalat City from a primary formation to one of the most famous, dynamic and modern tourists destinations in Vietnam. These clay sculptures are categorized into two main topics: History of Dalat City and Humane story.

The owner of the clay sculptures complex shared about the first theme as the recreation of Dalat history over periods from the beginning to 1893 when Langbiang Mountain was discovered by Yersin with wild nature's legends. Next, it is the period when Yersin discover Dalat. The period was proved by unique architectural and cultural works such as railway station, Bao Dai Palace, Lycée Yersin School, Pasteur Institute, Palace Hotel, Chicken Cathedral, Linh Son Pagoda, Xuan Huong Lake, Ong Dao Bridge, Dalat Market... In the end, it is the present and future Dalat with many new architectural works such as Lien Khuong International Airport, highways, Tuyen Lam Lake, and Love Valley...

The clay tunnel is also the culminated groundbreaking of material. After 4 years of studying, the owner finds new recipes of turning clay into a new material with unique colors and friendly to environment. The exploring tour of this unique clay tunnel starts from the dragon's head and ends at its tail. When entering the tourist area, tourists will see a giant dragon, which creates an attractive tourist image and stimulates the curiosity of visitors. In the area of Clay Sculptures, there is a house with an area of about 90 square meters. This really is a tourist attraction with high humanistic educational features for our generations. Clay house with roof shaped Vietnam map in the complex of Dalat clay sculptures gained two Vietnam Records as The most unique-style basaltic-soil house and The first and biggest basaltic soils house having a roof shaped of Vietnam map. The work is not just a breakthrough about materials, but also includes interesting stories about culture.

The clay house is leaning on the mountain side and faces Tuyen Lam Lake. Four walls of the house have images of culture, humanity, and love to Dalat. Especially, on the roof, there is Vietnam map made by basaltic soil. From any pointview, the map is so outstanding. In this house, there are many modern amenities from sounds, lights, and TV... All of these amenities are made from basaltic soil with 10% of lime and cement. Especially, the bed in this house is designed with water running around, fish and green trees, along with simple tools and utensil which are familiar to people. Clay sculptures in Dalat not only finished the purpose of the author, but also contribute to making a new tourism product in Dalat. By dint of the new product, tourism in Dalat will be more developed and attract a large number of tourists coming to Clay Sculptures complex in particular and to other attractions in Dalat in general.
