It is anticipated that by 2015, the number of tourists visiting Da Nang will be 4.15 million arrivals, increasing significantly compared to that of 2013 thanks to launches of new routes; the number of 4 – 5 hotels increases approximately 20% compared to that of present. In order to reach the target of constructing Da Nang City to become a tourism-event city with tourism as a key economic sector, in recent years, Da Nang has focused on investing and upgrading tourism infrastructures, diversifying tourism products. Da Nang has hosted successfully a huge number of large events, activities in the field of culture, sports and tourism, which reach the international standard. Major investors, therefore, implements several large projects, creating unique products, making Da Nang an attractive destination for both domestic and international tourists.
However, there are still some problems limiting the development of tourism in Da Nang. For example, the promotion of Da Nang tourism to foreign market is weak; the human resource does not meet the development needs of the industry; the city is in lack of recreational services, especially nightlife entertainment; the planning and construction of coastal amusement parks have not been implemented yet; the advent of too many small-scale hotels leads to the imbalance between supply and demand in hotel.
Facing that situation, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has suggested the city enabling businesses in waterway to get an easy access to concessional loans to develop waterway services, encouraging enterprises to participate in the Tourism Development Fund, strengthening the promotion of Da Nang tourism in international markets, and considering the policy of discounting 50% of rent in 5 years to call for investment.
Addressing at the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Anh, Deputy Secretary of Vietnam Communist Party in Da Nang City, appreciated achievements that the city gained during recent times, especially in the development of tourism infrastructures and the professional tourism workforce. Anh proposed that the tourism industry continues to pay attention to the quality of tourism services, particularly to accommodation such as hotels, resorts, types of entertainment and the quality of tourist serving. In addition, authorities of the city needs to focus on landscape, tourism environment, diversification of tourism types, business moral, business culture, tourism culture, and utilities and the timely support of authorities for visitors. In the near future, Da Nang will strengthen the tourism promotion in international markets, concentrating on key markets through fairs, exhibitions, and international events, simultaneously, investing on training human resource directly involved in tourism management.
