Start Phan Thiet Airport project

Recently, Phan Thiet Airport was inaugurated to construct under a BOT project. It is the first airport in Vietnam applies the construction form. The airport is expected to contribute greatly to the socio-economic development of Binh Thuan.

On January 18th, 2015, in Thien Nghiep Commune of Phan Thiet City (Binh Thuan province), Ministry of National Defense, Ministry of Transportation, and Binh Thuan People's Committee conducted the breaking ground ceremony of Phan Thiet Airport. Participants in the ceremony are Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai, Deputy Minister of Transportation Nguyen Ngoc Dong, Deputy Minister of National Defense Nguyen Huu Duc, local Committee Secretary Huynh Van Ti, Chairman of Khanh Hoa People's Committee Nguyen Chien Thang and some other leaders of Binh Thuan province and local people. According to the Chairman of Binh Thuan Le Tien Phuong, the consent of Vietnam government, Binh Thuan province decided to choose Rang Dong Group as BOT investor for civil category of the Phan Thiet Airport. Partially, the implementation of military items is conducted by the Corporation 319 under Ministry of National Defense with total 1,640 billion dong. Phan Thiet Airport is the first airports in Vietnam constructed in form of a BOT project.

 

Breaking ground ceremony of Phan Thiet Airport

 

The airport in Phan Thiet is planned for dual use (4C level), serving both economic and social development, and national security missions and rescue at sea in Phan Thiet. Specifically, Phan Thiet Airport will serve the aviation training of Air Force Regiment 920 under the Air Defense-Air Force. Phan Thiet Airport measures an area of 543 ha with the runway's length of 2,400 m. In the second phase, the runway will be constructed with the length of 3,050 m, with a terminal of 5,000 m2 meeting the need in rush hours with 300 passengers / hour. The civilian aircrafts such as A320, A321 and military ones as Su27, Su30 and AN 26 can take off and land at the airport. Speaking at the ceremony, on behalf of Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai praised the ministries and especially Binh Thuan province who made efforts to prepare the project inauguration successfully. Deputy Prime Minister said that the project is the first Vietnam airport applying the BOT investment in civil items.

This is a breakthrough in the development of the Vietnam aviation industry. Deputy Prime Minister asked the Binh Thuan province to promptly hand out ground for investors and construction units to facilitate the project implementation as scheduled. The project is expected to be completed in 2018. Thereby, it contributes to ensuring national security, economic and social development of Binh Thuan province as well as of the country. Mr. Le Tien Phuong, Chairman of the People's Committee of Binh Thuan said that the favorable geographical location and good socio-economic conditions create a huge advantages for the provincial development. However, the lack of airport and unfavorable roads is somewhat restricting the development of the province in recent years. When Phan Thiet Airport is completed, it will be an ideal condition for Binh Thuan to create a breakthrough in socio-economic development, security and defense. Traffic will create more favorable conditions for investors and tourists to Phan Thiet. According to the assessment, when Phan Thiet Airport is put into operation, it will connect flights from Phan Thiet to Tan Son Nhat, Cam Ranh, Buon Ma Thuot, Phu Quoc, and Da Nang... Passengers can travel to Phan Thiet in a short period of time instead of having to take time traveling by road.

Reportedly, Phan Thiet Airport after commissioning will not only cater to transportation and tourism with domestic flights from Phan Thiet to Tan Son Nhat, Lien Khuong, Buon Ma Thuot, Cam Ranh, Phu Quoc, Da Nang, Tuy Hoa, Phu Bai, Rach Gia, and Phu Cat. More importantly, the airport also serves the function of humanitarian relief work, national security and defense. This is the first airport construction project of BOT in Vietnam.
