Further tightening Vietnam - US relation

On August 8, 2014, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung had a welcome meeting with the United States Senate led by Senator John Mc Cain and Senator Sheldon Whitehouse to further tighten Vietnam US relation.

In the meeting, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong welcomed Senator John Mc Cain and Senator Sheldon Whitehouse coming back to Vietnam and highly appreciated great contributions of two senators and many American friends in Vietnam US diplomatic relation. Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong also expressed satisfaction about positive developments in multifaceted cooperation between two countries, especially in the past year since the comprehensive partnership was established. Vietnam General Secretary stated that Vietnam always considered the United States as one of important Vietnam diplomatic relations and expressed support for promoting the relation between two countries at all levels and in all fields towards the interests of citizens in two countries. Mr. Trong also expressed his desire in effectively implementing the comprehensive partnership and preparing the 20th anniversary of the normalization of relation between two countries in 2015.

 

Senator John McCain visit Vietnam

 

In the reply to Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong, Senator John McCain and Senator Sheldon Whitehouse expressed his pleasure to be back in Vietnam. Two Senators spoke that the relation between Vietnam and America had progressed a long way since the normalization of relation and had been positively growing. In addition, two Senators also proposed measures in bilateral cooperation in the next time and affirmed desire of American Government and Congress to further strengthen the partnership between two countries on the basis of equality and mutual respect in all fields and channels, including the relations with the Communist Party of Vietnam.

In the same day, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung also had a welcome meeting with the United States Senate. At the meeting, he said that a visit of Senator John McCain and Senator Sheldon Whitehouse had an important implication in the context of regional and world security complicatedly happening. Vietnam National Assembly Chairman also said that the important mark of the visit would help to strengthen cooperation between people and governments of two countries. According to the Mr. Nguyen Sinh Hung, with a deep understanding of Vietnam people and country, Sen. Mc Cain has made a significant contribution to the process of cooperation between Vietnam and the United States and promotion of bilateral cooperation in all fields. Highly appreciating the goodwill of two Senators for Vietnam, Mr. Hung wanted two countries continue to exchange high-level visits to build more comprehensive and substantive partnership.

 

Further tightening Vietnam US relation

 

Senator John McCain expressed his pleasure to be back in Vietnam and met National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung. Appreciating achievements of cooperation between Vietnam and United States in the context of the 20th anniversary of the normalization of relations coming, Sen. John McCain wants to further tightening cooperation between two countries, especially in field of security and defense, internet security, construction of hydropower ...Referring to Trans-Pacific Strategic Economic Partnership Agreement (TPP), Sen. John MacCain said that this was a great opportunity not only for each country but also for the whole region.

At the end of the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Sinh Hung sincerely thanked to two Senators because of the specifics actions to support Vietnam on the basis of international law for peace, prosperity in the region and in all over the world.
