Far about 5km from Dalat city center to the south, Tuyen Lam Lake owns an area of 360ha. This is the extremely appropriate venue for sports activities, namely hiking, boating or fishing. From a desolate valley at an altitude of more than 1,000m above sea level, Tuyen Lam Lake, among numerous lakes in Dalat, has been renovated into an ideal resort of the highland. The lake is neatly located between the vast pine forest and legendary Tia stream. The dry season in this region lasts in 6 months without any raindrop, yet the lake is always full of the water. The lake's surface is blue year round and rarely has big waves. Three-leaf pine forest covers surrounding mountains and the hills, which endlessly stretches along the lake. All blend together to create tranquil, peaceful and strangely poetic natural scenery. Exploring Tuyen Lam Lake is one of the most things to do in Dalat.
In order to set foot on Tuyen Lam Lake, tourists should drive along Highway 20 through majestic Prenn Pass and Datanla Waterfall. Then turning to the left about 1km across the untouched pine forests, tourists will encounter turquoise Tuyen Lam Lake full of charm. None knows when the lake's name was made and who named Tuyen Lam. Perhaps thanks to the spectacular natural scenery here, its name has survived so far. It is the rendezvous of the river, stream and trees. Tuyen Lam Lake has long become one of the most ideal tourist attractions in Dalat with the peaceful scenery of the lake and romantic natural landscape surroundings. It is worth a must-see tourist spots in Dalat travel attracting both domestic and foreign tourist.
In 1982, to ensure waters for hundreds of hectares of rice fields in Duc Trong district, the State built a dam here. Five years later, the construction was completed and gradually became indispensable sightseeing in Dalat attractions. The vast water surface is surrounded by undulating rugged mountains. The scenery seems to continuously change on stretches of road. Tourists will find easy it to catch small pine forests or high mountains with straight pine hills. Tuyen Lam is truly a fairyland and charming scenery with its name. On sunny days, visiting the lake with canoes or sailboats, tourists will have a chance to contemplate the evergreen pine hills alternating clusters of old forests and rolling hillsides reflecting down on the lake. Standing before that scenery, tourists seem to just lift off the worries of the daily life to step into fairyland instead.
Most of tourists participating in Dalat travel also set foot on Truc Lam Monastery in order to admire the spectacular panoramic view of the famous landscape created by the talent hand of humans from the top of Phuong Hoang (Phoenix) Mountain. Meanwhile, numerous tourists spend all day making excursions on the lake, enjoying the fresh and cool atmosphere as well as the quietness of the great lake. On shore, tourists can ascertain about the culture of the ethnic minorities in the south of Central Highlands with barbecue, "com lam" (unique traditional rice of ethnic people), "can" wine (delicious traditional wine) or campfire; participate in gongs festivals; admire the wood sculptures; relax on the windy traditional stilt-houses or join in jungle exploration journey. Dalat tourism actually leaves good impression to tourists thanks to the magnificence of Tuyen Lam Lake.
Tourists are also interested in gentle sport activities like football with a goal, volleyball on sand, fishing, or elephant and horseback riding... In particular, there are five domesticated elephants living in Tuyen Lam tourist area and Da Tien picnic area. Many types of wildlife gradually come back as monkeys, red-faced lions as well as other animals gathering in herds. In 2001, nearly 100 thousand tourists participated in Dalat tours on Tuyen Lam Lake, about 15% of which are international tourists. They usually select tours relating to jungle expedition to observe the birds and record the sounds of the jungle. In the spring, Tuyen Lam Lake sparkles emerald much more beautifying the poetic and romantic scenery of Dalat.
In the morning, the lake is covered with white mist and extremely quiet with only sounds of birds blending with smooth lake's surface. At noon, the sky becomes much blue, which turns the surface of lake into glittering as crystal. In the afternoon, the lake is gentle in the cool light and gradually turns dark blue. Floating on a small boat on Tuyen Lam Lake or taking a stroll with lovers, tourists will feel the fanciful, dreamlike and magical beauty that Creator has been favorably bestowed Dalat.
