Vinpearl Phu Quoc Resort will have a next-door casino

The Ministry of Construction submitted Prime Minister a report on relocation of a general entertainment center with a casino in Phu Quoc Island. Accordingly, the entertainment center will be built next to Vinpearl Phu Quoc Resort.

According to the new plan of the Ministry of Construction, the relocation of casino changes from Da Chong Hamlet in Bai Thom Commune to the new location adjacent to Vinpearl Phu Quoc Resort and Giang Dien ecotourism (in Long Beach). The relocation is “appropriate and more convenient to call for investment in Phu Quoc”. This proposal has previously received the consent of the Ministry of Planning and Investment. It is expected that the project will not just bring benefit to tourism and economy in Phu Quoc in particular, but also Vietnam economy in general. The proposed site has an area of 37ha, belonging to the new luxury ecological complex located in the northwest of Phu Quoc Island. Previously, the old location in the northeast was near the high dense population and old tourism development area of the island. Now, this area will be adjusted to become a complex of resort having an entertainment center with casino business.

In the middle of January 2015, the Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Planning and Investment to coordinate with Kien Giang Province and related agencies to research, collect and explain opinions of ministries about the project. Thereby, there is a guide to set up the project in accordance with the law to have specific suggestions and report to submit Prime Minister for consideration after the government issuing a decree on the casino in Phu Quoc. In the draft decree of the Ministry of Finance submitted the Government from August 2014, the agency proposed that Vietnamese people from 21 years old with sufficient capacity of behavior and finance can enter and play at casino business points. Earlier, at the conference to comment on the proposal to set up a special economic zone in Phu Quoc, it is said that the casino center will be built on an area of 30,000 m2 with 200-400 gambling tables, 2,000 gaming machines; in addition, there is also an international conference center, and a 5-star hotel with 3000 rooms... Investors who want to participate in the project must commit a capital of at least US$ 4 billion.

Phu Quoc Island is the largest island district with an area of 589 km2, equivalent to Singapore and the population of 96,940 people. There are many infrastructural projects in Phu Quoc being invested, completed and put into operation such as Phu Quoc International Airport, and International An Thoi Port. Investors in Phu Quoc will be benefited with the highest incentives and supports like industrial zones, export procession zones, and economic zones. In September 2014, Prime Minister had a decision on Phu Quoc Island as grade 2 urban area. The government has assigned the Southwest Steering Committee, ministries and Kien Giang People's Committee to set up scheme on establishing Phu Quoc Specialized Economic Zone with the goal of bringing it become the center of national and international high-class ecotourism, resort, and regional financial center. This will be one of large-scale investments in Vietnam in terms of entertainment center with casino business.
