Vietnam US cooperation boosted in all fields

On two days of October 2014, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh visited the United States and had negotiations with US Secretary of State John Kerry. During the meeting, two sides discussed and committed many important economic and political issues.

On the invitation of US Secretary of State John Kerry, Deputy Prime Minister as well as Minister of Foreign Affair Pham Binh Minh paid a visit to the US during October 1-2, 2014. On October 2, at the talk of Vietnam Deputy Prime Minister and the US Secretary of State, the two side expressed satisfaction about the good relationship of Vietnam US over the time, especially after establishing a comprehensive partnership in July 2013. The two sides also exchanged methods to strengthen the Vietnam US relation in the coming time. In addition, they agreed to implement activities to celebrate the 20-year anniversary of normalization of diplomatic relations in 2015 (1995-2005).

Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh affirmed that Vietnam highly appreciate the relationship with the US and hope to boost multiple cooperation between two countries. Also, he proposed the United State for creating flexible conditions to Vietnam, supports Vietnam in technique during TPP negotiation, and complements the agreement. In addition, Vietnam recommended the US to recognize the market economy in Vietnam, enhance cooperations in science, technology, education and training with Vietnam, and keep supporting Vietnam in dealing with war consequence.

Secretary of State John Kerry affirmed that the US highly evaluate the role of Vietnam in the region, and hope to keep cooperating with Vietnam in all fields. The US recorded and would consider positively requests of Vietnam. He also commitment to support Vietnam in addressing the consequences of war, including the issue of Agent Orange and land-mines left from the war, promoting the establishment of the University Fulbright in Vietnam, and agreed to continue the dialogue to enhance mutual understanding of different issues. John Kerry pledged to cooperate more closely with Vietnam and other countries in the region in the implementation of project in the framework of the Lower Mekong Initiative (LMI) project, including ensuring water security in Mekong River.

On this occasion, Secretary of State John Kerry informed that the United States partially lifted a part of damage weapon embargo against Vietnam. The two sides also exchanged views on regional and international issues, including the South China Sea issue. The parties should strictly implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) to avoid the risk of escalating disputes and instability in the region, peacefully solving disputes based on international law and the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea in 1982. At the meeting between Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh and the National Security Advisor Susan Rice, the two sides discussed measures to strengthen bilateral relations and regional international concerning issues. National Security Advisor Susan Rice stressed that the United States remains committed to implement a re-balancing strategy in the region. She expressed attaches great importance to relations with Vietnam and committed to collaborate to make comprehensive development partnership more and effective substantial.

 

Vietnam delegation has a talk with the US

 

At a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh and the US Trade Representative Michael Froman, the two sides exchanged a number of issue in economic and trade relations between the two countries, including the Trans-Pacific Strategic Economic Partnership Agreement (TPP). The two sides agreed to actively cooperate to further strengthen economic and trade relations together to early conclude the important negotiation. Earlier, on September 1, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh attended and spoke at the ceremony of announcing the report of "A new era in Vietnam - US relation: Further promote the ties after two-decade normalization" at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington, DC. During the visit, Deputy Prime Minister also met and had a talk with officers of Vietnam Embassy in Washington, DC, and representatives of Vietnamese people who are living and studying in the United States.
