Located in the Northwest of Vietnam, Sapa is a mountainous district belonging to Lao Cai province. Ta Phin is nestled in a beautiful and pristine valley, around 15 kilometers in the northeast of Sapa. This is a village of "Dao Do" ethnic group. Visiting Ta Phin, tourist can catch images of Dao Do women in very beautiful and colorful dress made from brocade, a traditionally hand-made product of local people here. These people are quite friendly and hospitable. In addition, travelling this village, tourists can explore customs, traditions, and culture of the ethnic community, which will be staged repertoires for tourists like wedding ceremonies and some types of traditional dances. In addition, tourists can also participate in many exciting folk games in traditional festivals including walking on stilts, shooting crossbows and enjoy traditional cuisines including bacon, bread made from baby corns.
One famous tourist attraction should not be missed in the Ta Phin village is Ta Phin Cave. Ta Phin Cave has a special charm for those who love discovering and immersing yourself in nature. Ta Phin Cave has 5 meters in height and 3 meters in width. Go deeply inside the Cave, tourists can see many stalactites with special and strange shapes, which are hanging down without any arrangement.
Ta Phin is being recognized as a famous brocade village. The handmade brocades of the village is colorful and has various designs. Brocade is an indispensable gift for tourists when sightseeing in Sapa. To the ethnic people of Ta Phin, brocades have an important meaning. This is not only used as a thing to decorate and embellish, but also a memento in a wedding day of couples.
Visiting Ta Phin village, tourists should try to use herbs-bathing service. Herbs-bathing is an unique features in daily activities of Dao Do people. Walking around Ta Phin, tourists can see a plenty types of herbs are exposed to the sun. From ancient times, Dao Do people often collect leaves from different medical plants in forests, put them in the boiling water, and bathe with this water. Recognizing that washing by this way is very good for health, local people in the village decided to turn it into a special service serving tourists. If tourists want to try this service, they can enter into a house without permission from owners. According to the tradition of Dao Do, each herbal remedy includes over 10 kinds of herbs, even if sometimes this number reaches at 120. Have just entered into a bathroom, tourists can immediately catch a whiff of fragrant herbs. The water of this herbal remedy has a red color, which looks like a red color of Bordeaux wine. Immersing in the whole body in a wood-bathtub, tourists can experience the refresh and relaxed feeling. According to the local people, washing with the herbal remedy can treat some diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis pain, muscle fatigue, sciatica, skin diseases, jaundice and so on. In particularly, for women, the herbs-bathing service will help them have a rosy and smooth complexion.
